Australian passport photo guidelinesAustralian passport photos must meet current size, quality and biometric requirements. Other countries and document types have different specifications, so tell us the exact application when you visit.
Watch the Australian Passport Office video below and check the official passport photo guidelines for the current requirements. Head coverings, jewellery and glassesA plain religious head covering may be worn if it shows the entire face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead, including both edges of the face. Jewellery and piercings must not obscure the eyes, mouth, nose or any other part of the face, and there must be no reflections. Glasses must not be worn unless they cannot be removed for medical reasons. In that case, the frames must not obscure the eyes and the lenses must not create reflections. Children and babiesChildren under three may have their mouth open, but no other person or object can be visible. All other applicable requirements still need to be met. Guarantors and medical exemptionsFor a paper passport application, the guarantor must endorse the back of one photo. Online applications use a referee instead. A guarantor or referee is not required for a passport renewal. If a medical condition prevents you from meeting the photo requirements, the Australian Passport Office may require a medical certificate or a current form B11. Photo Examples
